Daily 3 Cafe

Below is an product I will use in my classroom to promote the Daily 3 Cafe and Treasures curriculum we use in kindergarten. This product provides students with a shape depicting their three choices for each Daily 3 session we do in kindergarten. Two sessions are 15 minutes in length and one is 30 minutes to provide students with choice and smaller, structured chunks of time.

The students get to choose their second and third sessions. They also get to choose what they do first during those two sessions. The first session is chosen for the students. This is the small group session. This session is 30 minutes long and provides students a session to learn reading skills at their level. Students work on letter and sound recognition, identifying words, fluency, phonics, and comprehension skills in their groups.

In the second session students can choose Word Work or Read to Self. They will do both in the same day so the choice is theirs. During Word Work students will work on writing their sight word(s), letter(s) of the week, or alphabet. They can choose to do this activity in various forms like using white-boards, wiki-sticks, or stamps. More Word Work choices become available throughout the year.

During the Read to Self session students will be reading books at their level out of their book box. They also get the opportunity to read a story about our theme if this option is available. Students spend fifteen minutes with their book boxes and theme books each day. Students will also have the opportunity to conference with me approximately once each week so I can assess their progress.
